"A bowtie can be simple, structured and minimal or elaborate and layered–but it is always classic," says artist York Wu. After seeing his work, we believe they are so much more...
Exquisite detailing and a hint of raw sexuality infuse the premiere collection of Noeud Papillon by WUYORK. Designed by artist York Wu, the collection of 18 distinct bowties was inspired by his obsession with beautiful materials.
Noeud Papillon is his first endeavor into sculptures meant to be worn as accessories. With no formal training in traditional fashion design, Wu felt unencumbered by any preconceived notions of the industry. He considers the bowtie the most distilled form of male accoutrement and began creating the collection with his own aesthetic in mind.
During this past New York Fashion Week, he presented his collection gallery-style at an intimate presentation in SoHo, where we fell completely in love with everything:

Each of the 18 pieces is handmade in New York and the material palette is inspired by Wu's history as a sculptor and interior designer. Each bowtie is treated like a work of art, built from carefully sourced materials used in fashion and architecture; the Noeud Papillon collection is fabricated out of indulgent materials including Japanese ebony ribbon and silver painted linen.
"A bowtie can be simple, structured and minimal or elaborate and layered–but it is always classic," Wu explains. "The beauty of each piece is that it can be worn by both men and women, but it doesn't have to be worn around the neck–it can grace the lapel or the strap of a handbag. I see this as wearable art."

And while we are now seriously obsessed with WUYORK bowties, we genuinely loved the entire presentation including black-painted models, bowties housed in clear show boxes (and filled with living monarch butterflies), as well as Wu's artwork which is as layered and gorgeous as you can imagine. See below for a bit of the scene and his work...

Butterflies are my favorite thing--emoting fragility...a perfect compliment to the structure of the bows!
