The Fashion Of…Fashion’s Night Out

About this column: Whether a weekend warrior (shopper) or a consummate fashionista, chances are that at least now and again you find yourself wondering,"what do I wear?" Are these stilettos too much for a Yankees game? Should my puffer vest cost more than a weekend of skiing? Through this column, Fashion Stylist and Editor, Lindsay Brooke Cohen, will tackle these most essential questions. Because remember, fashion is not just what you wear, it’s how and when you wear it....and also where you go.

The countdown has begun. New York City is gearing up for yet another Fashion’s Night Out, and this year even more stores are participating than the last. Because you can’t split yourself in two (or in my case, ten!), I’ve mapped out an itinerary that guarantees a night filled with bubbly, music and even some live appearances from your favorite stars and designers. Get ready to cover some fashionable ground and discover The Fashion Of…Fashion’s Night Out.

kate spade new york, 454 Broome Street:
Interact and take part in a window styling contest at this Broome street flagship. Join Tim Gunn, Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claiborne Inc. and co-host of Project Runway, and Deborah Lloyd, Creative Director of kate spade new york, and show ‘em what you’ve got! Contestants will create displays inspired by Gunn’s newest book, Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons For Making It Work. While you’re there, be sure to cheer on our very own Casey Kettleson, who will be hard at work styling a window.

Rag & Bone, 119 Mercer Street:
When was the last time you attended a street party? Rag & Bone, along with fellow Mercer Street retailer 3.1 Phillip Lim, will be co-hosting a street soiree equipped with comfort food (fries, burgers and shakes) and a live DJ. Need help styling yourself for fall? Step inside the store and designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville will help SoHo shoppers select key fall pieces. How’s that for personal attention?

Ralph Lauren, 379 West Broadway:
Join fashion guru, Andre Leon Talley, at Ralph Lauren’s downtown haven for shopping, champs and a performance by Grammy nominated singer Janelle Monae. Dance in the street to her musical beats, then move on up(town)…to the East side!

DKNY, 655 Madison Avenue:
Leigh Lezark of Misshapes will be the Guest DJ & VIP Host at this Madison Avenue locale. Love what Lezark’s wearing? Don’t we all! You can purchase the look she’s wearing, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to charity. Don’t forget to have your mug taken in the DKNY photobooth. The pictures will be displayed on the second floor windows, giving passerbyers something to surely talk about.

Donna Karan, 819 Madison Avenue:
RockJazz pianist Eric Lewis will be playing the baby grand piano in the window of this boutique at 7:30 and 8:00. And don’t miss the live mannequin presentation featuring five models selected by Vogue, all wearing the Fall 2010 Runway collection. Enjoy the sights, hear the sounds and sip some Veuve Clicquot. Sigh…life is good!

Smythson of Bond Street, 4 West 57th Street:
Last but not least, end your uptown adventure at Smythson of Bond Street. In partnership with Cowshed, Smythson will be entitling shoppers to a complimentary mini mani. Polish colors pay homage to the Autumn/Winter collection of leathers. Indulge in cupcakes (and of course, even more champs) and take home a limited edition FNO t-shirt. Bottoms up!

Other notables:
Asos and Teen Vogue’s block party, Perry and Bleecker Street
Piperlime’s pop-up shop, 93 Mercer Street (and meet Rachel Zoe!)
JNBY, 75 Greene Street (complimentary JNBY designed tote with purchase)
