Get acquainted with Kid Sister - Melisa Young - she's heading straight to the top.
It’s been a long time coming, but Kid Sister’s debut release Ultraviolet is finally ready to hit stores on November 17th - and let me tell you it was well worth the wait. You’ve seen her in i-D, W and Flaunt magazines, and maybe you’ve seen the eye-poppingly colorful video for “Pro Nails,” but now you get to hear what Melisa Young is really made of.
Her story starts in Chicago, where her brother Josh (one half of DJ darlings Flosstradamus) gave her the stage to strut her stuff. It didn’t take much before Melisa Young became Kid Sister, and her reputation grew fast. Before long her single “Pro Nails” made its way into the hands of hip-hop giant Kanye West and the rest is history.
Most of the tracks are body-moving bangers, and I would be hard-pressed to pick a favorite. “Step” featuring Estelle is the ladies’ anthem I’ve been needing in my life lately, “Life on TV” is a perfect hip-pop party anthem, and the house jam “Right Hand Hi” is on repeat for my A.M. commute (the beat is insane). Not only does she have chops on the mic, but she is also a serious beauty. Her nails are always off the charts (can you say Swarovski?) and she modeled Married to the Mob’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection in red lips and pearls. Basically, we love this girl: her attitude, her style, and her kick-ass album.
“I think Ultraviolet represents everything that I am. Silly, yet unfuckwitable,” she says. We think so too. What do you think? And how do you jazz up your nails?
